China condemns US military aid to Taiwan

China has expressed strong opposition to US President Joe Biden's recent approval of 571.3 million US dollar in military aid for Taiwan, calling it a violation of its sovereignty and security interests.

The White House announced on Friday that Biden had authorized the allocation of defense articles, services, and military training under the Department of Defense to assist Taiwan. While specific details of the package were not disclosed, it follows a similar authorization of $567 million in military aid less than three months ago.
'This decision severely undermines China's sovereignty and security,' stated China's foreign ministry, which confirmed it had lodged a formal protest with the United States.
Although the US does not officially recognize Taiwan diplomatically, it remains the island's key strategic partner and largest arms supplier.
Beijing, which views Taiwan as part of its territory, has consistently urged Washington to cease military support for the self-ruled island. In recent years, China has increased its political and military pressure on Taiwan in an effort to assert its claims.
Meanwhile, Taiwan recently received 38 advanced Abrams battle tanks from the United States, marking its first acquisition of new tanks in three decades, further solidifying the strategic partnership between Washington and Taipei.
