Iran ready to improve ties with West: Masoud Pezeshkian

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian told the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) that he wants to open a 'constructive' chapter in his country’s international relations and that Tehran is 'ready to engage' with the West over its nuclear programme.

In his inaugural speech at the UN on Tuesday, Pezeshkian highlighted his country’s desire for constructive international engagement.
He sharply condemned Israel for its military actions in Gaza, accusing it of 'genocide' and 'crimes against humanity,' as well as criticizing attacks on Lebanon. Pezeshkian described these actions as 'barbaric' and called for global recognition of the ongoing suffering in the region.
Outlining his vision for Iran's future, Pezeshkian emphasized, 'My goal is to set a solid path for Iran's role in the changing global landscape, contributing positively to international relations.' He reaffirmed Iran's commitment to peace, stating that the country seeks no conflict, specifically mentioning the importance of ending the war in Ukraine.
Pezeshkian also expressed Tehran’s readiness to re-engage with the participants of the 2015 nuclear agreement, noting that if the deal's obligations are met in full and with sincerity, Iran is open to further discussions on broader issues.
In a direct message to the American public, Pezeshkian recounted several grievances, including the harsh sanctions imposed by the US and the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani in 2020 under the Trump administration.
