Saudi Arabia priority in China's Middle East diplomacy
Chinese prime minister Li Qiang underscored the importance of Saudi Arabia in China's diplomacy during a meeting Wednesday with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, state media reported.
Li emphasized that Saudi Arabia is a key focus of China's foreign relations, particularly within its Middle East strategy. He pointed out that the two nations have maintained a strong foundation of mutual respect and trust.
China is committed to deepening its partnership with Saudi Arabia, with a focus on shared achievements and viewing each other's development as key opportunities, according to Li.
Crown Prince bin Salman also praised the strong progress in Saudi-China relations, describing the countries as reliable and comprehensive strategic partners.
Premier Li arrived in Riyadh on Tuesday to co-chair the Fourth Meeting of the High-Level Chinese-Saudi Joint Committee alongside bin Salman. China is currently Saudi Arabia’s second-largest oil importer, with bilateral trade reaching approximately $106 billion last year.
Li’s visit also marks the first high-level diplomatic engagement with Riyadh since China played a role in facilitating a reconciliation deal between Saudi Arabia and Iran in March of the previous year.
