14-year old gunman kills four in US school shooting
A 14-year-old gunman killed at least four people, including two students, and wounded nine more when he opened fire at a high school in the US state of Georgia on Wednesday, law enforcement said.
The shooter, who is also a student at the school, was apprehended and will face murder charges as an adult, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed. Among the victims were two teachers.
This tragic incident adds to the growing number of mass shootings in the United States, with nearly 400 reported so far this year. Following the shooting, a group of people gathered on a sports field near Apalachee High School, many linking arms in solidarity.
The FBI disclosed late Wednesday that the suspect had been on their radar for over a year due to previous threats to carry out a school shooting.
According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been at least 384 mass shootings in the US this year, resulting in the deaths of at least 11,557 people.
