Rishi Sunak cancels Greek PM meeting

A significant diplomatic rift has surfaced between the British and Greek governments concerning the contentious issue of the Parthenon Sculptures, also known as the Elgin Marbles.

Scheduled to meet in London the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was left disappointed after No 10 abruptly canceled the anticipated meeting with Rishi Sunak at the eleventh hour. Expressing his deep disappointment over the sudden cancellation, Mr. Mitsotakis declined an alternative meeting proposed with the deputy prime minister.
In a statement to reporters on Monday evening, the Greek prime minister conveyed his disappointment, highlighting the sudden cancellation 'mere hours before its slated time.' He emphasized the importance of engaging in constructive dialogue and debate for those who firmly believe in the righteousness and fairness of their positions.
Mr. Mitsotakis stressed the historically rooted friendship and extensive bilateral relations shared between Greece and Britain, underscoring the significance of the relationship between the two nations.
Sources familiar with the sentiments within the Greek government revealed that Mr. Mitsotakis was left 'baffled' and 'annoyed' by the unexpected turn of events, indicating the underlying tension and frustration caused by the cancellation of the pivotal meeting.
