Malaysia rejects unilateral sanctions against supporters of Palestinian groups
Malaysia said it will not recognise unilateral sanctions, in response to a proposed United States law to level sanctions against foreign supporters of groups operating in Palestine.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in a written response to parliament, stated that Malaysia would not acknowledge such unilateral sanctions unless it could be conclusively proven that Malaysia was providing material support to either Hamas or the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Anwar also highlighted the potential repercussions of sanctions against Malaysia, emphasizing that they could influence the US government's assessment of Malaysia and US companies' investment opportunities in the country. This move signifies Malaysia's commitment to safeguarding its international relations and economic interests.
