Saudi to host Ukraine peace talks, without Russia

Saudi Arabia is making efforts to host a significant peace summit on August 5 and 6, aiming to bring together top officials from 30 countries, including India, Brazil, and various Western nations.

Russia will not be participating in the summit, and it appears unlikely that China will attend either, according to the report. However, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan's presence is expected, as confirmed by a source familiar with the event's organization.
The high-profile summit is scheduled to take place in Jeddah, a crucial port city, and its primary objective is to rally international support for Ukraine's peace demands.
At present, the full list of countries attending the summit remains unclear. Nevertheless, Saudi Arabia and Ukraine have jointly extended invitations to 30 nations, which notably include Egypt, Mexico, Indonesia, Chile, and Zambia. The United Kingdom, South Africa, Poland, and the European Union have already confirmed their participation, as reported by the media.
The summit comes at a crucial juncture as Russia and Western nations vie for support from developing countries, many of which have thus far maintained a neutral stance amidst Russia's 16-month-long full-scale war against Ukraine.
Earlier in 2023, Saudi Arabia's Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan visited Kyiv in February and announced a substantial humanitarian aid package of 400 million US dollar.
Saudi Arabia has emerged as a key player in facilitating negotiations for prisoner exchanges with Russia, resulting in a major exchange involving nearly 300 individuals, including commanders who were trapped in the besieged Azovstal plant in Mariupol. This exchange took place in September 2022 and showcased Saudi Arabia's proactive efforts in supporting peace initiatives between Ukraine and Russia.
