China grapples with record heat wave as S Korea faces rising flood toll

China is currently experiencing a severe heat wave, while South Korea continues to grapple with a rising death toll due to torrential rains. These extreme weather events have captured both havoc and curiosity worldwide.

In China, tourists have been drawn to a colossal thermometer displaying surface temperatures of 80°C (176°F). Meanwhile, the death toll in South Korea has reached 44 as a result of the relentless downpours.
In another part of the world, wildfires have been raging for three consecutive days to the west of Athens, Greece. Air and water bombers have resumed their operations at daybreak, and firefighters have been tirelessly working through the night to protect a cluster of coastal refineries from the advancing flames.
Amidst the stifling heat in Beijing, US climate envoy John Kerry has entered the third day of talks with Chinese officials. Kerry expressed hope that collaborative efforts to combat global warming could potentially redefine the strained relationship between the two superpowers.
The occurrence of heat waves across various regions, including Europe, Asia, and the United States, has emphasized the global pattern of extreme weather events this week. The World Meteorological Organization issued a warning on Tuesday about the heightened risk of fatalities associated with excessively high temperatures.
