NATO Calls Emergency meet After 2 Killed In Missile Strike In Poland

Poland is on high alert after 2 people were killed as Russian missile landed on a NATO country for the first time amid war with Ukraine. The Polish government_ in a statement_ said that Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau summoned the Russian ambassador and 'demanded immediate detailed explanations.'

Polish government spokesperson Piotr Mueller said some military units were put on alert while officials sought details. Polish media reported that the strike took place in an area where grain was drying in Przewodów_ a village near the border with Ukraine.

Russia's Defence Ministry called reports that Russian missiles had hit Poland a 'provocation' and said there were no strikes by Russian arms near Ukraine-Poland border.

Russian spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told media he did not have 'any information on that' when asked if the reported strike was an accident or deliberate.

However_ Polish government spokesperson Piotr Mueller confirmed top leaders were holding an emergency meeting due to a crisis situation_ while officials said the country is increasing the readiness of its military.

Extending condolences to Polish President Andrzej Duda_ NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the alliance is 'monitoring the situation'.

Multiple media reports said the NATO chief will chair an emergency meeting of the alliance's 30 member states today in Brussels. 'Spoke with President Duda prezydentpl about the explosion in poland. I offered my condolences for the loss of life. NATO is monitoring the situation and Allies are closely consulting. Important that all facts are established_' NATO chief Stoltenberg tweeted.
