China-Iran reiterate call to end occupation in Palestine

China’s Wang Yi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi

China and Iran’s top diplomats on Saturday reiterated the need to resolve the Palestinian issue by restoring the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and bringing an end to the occupation.

A statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry following a meeting between China’s Wang Yi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Beijing emphasized the urgency of an immediate ceasefire, withdrawal of occupying forces, and the provision of emergency humanitarian aid.
The leaders also discussed the broader Middle East situation, asserting that the region belongs to its people and should not be exploited as a 'battleground for major power conflicts' or subjected to geopolitical rivalries.
'The future and destiny of Middle Eastern nations must be determined by their own people,' the statement declared, urging the international community to respect the sovereignty, security, stability, unity, and territorial integrity of these nations.
This marked Abbas Araghchi’s first official visit to China since his appointment as Iran’s foreign minister.
The meeting also covered developments in Lebanon, where both parties stressed the importance of fully implementing the ceasefire agreement. Additionally, they called for respect for Syria's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity amid ongoing challenges.
The conversation extended to Iran’s nuclear program, with Wang Yi reaffirming China’s commitment to resolving the matter through political and diplomatic channels. He condemned the use of unilateral sanctions and pressure, urging a return to dialogue and negotiations.
'China firmly supports Iran in protecting its legitimate rights and interests,' Wang stated, underscoring Beijing’s opposition to measures that undermine Iran’s position in the international arena.
