UNRWA chief says Israel has broken all rules of war in Gaza

Israel has violated all the rules of war in the Gaza Strip, the commissioner-general of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) said Sunday.

Philippe Lazzarini, the commissioner-general of UNRWA, drew attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where Israeli strikes have persisted for over a year.
'Over the past 24 hours, there has been an escalation with more reports of civilians being killed and injured,' Lazzarini wrote on his X account. 'Schools and hospitals have been repeatedly targeted. The global community cannot afford to grow desensitized. War has rules, and every one of them has been ignored.'
He underscored the urgent need for a cease-fire in Gaza, stressing that halting the violence is essential to safeguarding civilian lives.
The conflict, which began on October 7, 2023, has claimed the lives of more than 45,200 individuals, most of whom were women and children. Critics have referred to Israel's actions in Gaza as genocidal.
In a significant legal development, the International Criminal Court recently issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Additionally, Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
