Amnesty accuses Israel of committing genocide in Gaza

Amnesty International has accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, stating that its military actions meet the legal definition outlined in the 1948 Genocide Convention. The claims were detailed in a report published on Thursday, titled 'You Feel Like You Are Subhuman': Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians in Gaza.

The report is the result of months of investigation, during which Amnesty gathered witness testimonies, analyzed digital and satellite evidence, and reviewed statements from senior Israeli officials. According to the findings, Israel has carried out at least three of the five acts prohibited under the Genocide Convention: indiscriminate killing of civilians, inflicting serious bodily or mental harm, and creating living conditions intended to destroy Palestinians in Gaza.
Agnes Callamard, Amnesty International’s secretary-general, stated, 'Israel has systematically treated Palestinians in Gaza as less than human, stripping them of dignity and basic rights. Our research shows a deliberate intent to physically destroy this population.'
Callamard further emphasized that despite repeated warnings about the devastating humanitarian crisis and legally binding orders from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, Israel continued its actions, knowing the profound harm being inflicted on the population.
