At least 51 dead in flash floods in Spain

At least 51 people are known to have died after torrential rain caused flash floods in south-eastern Spain, authorities have said.

Rescue operations are ongoing as many individuals remain missing. Heavy rain and hailstorms have struck several regions, causing sudden and severe flooding. Carlós Mazón, the president of the Valencia region, stated that it is 'impossible' to determine the final death toll at this time.
Social media videos show the floodwaters wreaking havoc—destroying bridges, sweeping cars through streets, and stranding people who clung to trees to escape the current.
The Spanish Weather Service reported that Chiva, in Valencia, received an unprecedented 491mm of rainfall in only eight hours on Tuesday, equivalent to a year’s typical rainfall.
Emergency teams are using drones to search for the missing in Letur, one of the hardest-hit areas, according to local official Milagros Tolon in a broadcast on TVE, Spain’s public television.
