Myanmar village air strike kills at least 12

An airstrike carried out by Myanmar's military on a village controlled by anti-junta resistance fighters has resulted in the deaths of at least 12 individuals. The strike reportedly targeted civilian-populated areas.
The attack occurred Friday afternoon in Letpanhla village, located approximately 60 kilometers (around 40 miles) north of Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city. The village falls within Singu township and is under the control of the People’s Defence Forces (PDF) — a resistance group that emerged in response to the military’s 2021 coup, which ousted the democratically elected government and sparked widespread conflict across the country.
“A large number of civilians were killed because the bombs were dropped on a crowded area,” the local official said, requesting anonymity. “The strike took place when many people were heading to the market.”
As of Saturday, the official confirmed that 12 fatalities had been recorded, although local PDF sources claimed the death toll could be as high as 27.
Observers and analysts have noted an uptick in the military’s reliance on airstrikes, often in regions with significant civilian presence, as the junta faces ongoing resistance across Myanmar.
