China's President Xi urges missile troops to boost deterrence, combat capabilities
Chinese President Xi Jinping called on the People's Liberation Army's Rocket Force to enhance their "deterrence and combat capabilities" during an inspection on Thursday.
While visiting the brigade, Xi emphasized the importance of the strategic missile forces in fulfilling the duties assigned by both the Communist Party and the Chinese people, according to the state news agency Xinhua.
The PLA Rocket Force, responsible for managing China’s conventional and nuclear missile arsenal, has been focused on modernizing its capabilities. This effort comes in response to advancements such as enhanced U.S. missile defense systems, improved surveillance technologies, and stronger international alliances.
Xi further highlighted the need for the troops to maintain "political guidance" and take responsibility for their mission, stressing the importance of promoting "high-quality development" in the construction of the force, according to Chinese media outlet Cailianshe.
In September, China drew international attention with a rare test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) into the Pacific Ocean, reflecting the growing global concern about the country’s expanding nuclear capabilities.
