Myanmar's detained ex-leader Suu Kyi moved to house arrest

Myanmar's detained former leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been transferred from prison to house arrest, according to a spokesperson for the military regime.

The decision was made due to the intense heat, with the military government aiming to safeguard not only Suu Kyi but also other vulnerable prisoners, particularly the elderly, from heat-related health issues, stated junta spokesperson Major General Zaw Min Tun in remarks reported by multiple media outlets on Tuesday.
Suu Kyi, renowned for her resilience against previous military regimes, spent a cumulative 15 years under house arrest during the rule of a past junta. During those years, she remained confined to a dilapidated family residence by Inya Lake in Yangon, where she became known for delivering powerful speeches to her supporters through the property's metal gates.
Since the military coup in 2021, Suu Kyi, now 78 years old, has been in military custody. She faces a myriad of charges, including treason, bribery, and telecommunications law violations, collectively carrying a potential sentence of 27 years. However, Suu Kyi vehemently denies these allegations.
