Myanmar armed group seizes China, Myanmar border crossing

An ethnic minority armed group in Myanmar has taken control of a significant border crossing between China and Myanmar, as reported by local media and a security source on Sunday.

Intense clashes have unfolded in Myanmar's northern Shan state, near the Chinese border, following an offensive launched by an alliance of three ethnic minority groups against the country's military in October.
These groups have successfully captured numerous military positions and a town crucial for trade with China, thereby disrupting vital commerce routes for the financially strained ruling junta.
The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), part of the aforementioned alliance, has successfully seized the Kyin San Kyawt border gate, according to a local media outlet associated with the group.
'Today, MNDAA reported the capture of another border trade gate named Kyin San Kyawt in the Mongko area of the Muse district,' stated the Kokang news outlet on Sunday.
Moreover, the alliance, which includes the Arakan Army (AA) and Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), has taken control of additional positions within the border trade zone following the commencement of the assault on Friday.
This border gate was reopened in 2022 after the pandemic and serves as a significant trading hub along the Myanmar-China border.
