Putin-Kim meeting to focus on arms negotiations: Pentagon
The Pentagon has disclosed that the forthcoming meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will be primarily devoted to discussions pertaining to arms control.
During a press briefing, spokesperson Pat Ryder conveyed, "We are aware of the scheduled meeting, and it is our understanding that the primary agenda will revolve around negotiations related to arms."
Ryder reemphasized the United States' call for North Korea to adhere to its previously declared public commitment, wherein it pledged not to supply weaponry to Russia.
Ryder asserted that providing arms to Russia would merely serve to "prolong the ongoing conflict" in Ukraine.
Russian authorities officially confirmed the arrival of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for a rare summit with President Putin.
According to North Korean state media, Kim embarked on his journey from the capital, Pyongyang, aboard a specialized train, accompanied by high-ranking government and military officials. This marks Kim's first visit to Russia since 2019.
Earlier this month, the Pentagon issued a stern warning to North Korea, urging them to refrain from engaging in any transactions involving ammunition and weaponry with Russia. Washington has made it clear that Pyongyang will not be spared consequences if it proceeds with any arms deals with Moscow.
