Biden expresses disappointment over Xi Jinping's absence from G20 summit

US President Joe Biden has voiced his disappointment over the decision by Chinese President Xi Jinping to forgo attending the upcoming G20 summit in India.

Addressing reporters on Sunday, President Biden expressed his sentiments, stating, 'I am disappointed... but I am going to get to see him,' without specifying the exact timing of their meeting.
Beijing announced on Monday that Premier Li Qiang would lead the Chinese delegation at the forthcoming summit in Delhi, scheduled for this week.
Notably, the last meeting between Presidents Xi and Biden occurred at the G20 summit in Indonesia last year.
Despite a series of diplomatic overtures from Washington throughout the year aimed at reigniting dialogue, US-China relations remain strained.
China's foreign ministry, during its press briefing on Monday, neither confirmed nor refuted President Xi's attendance at the Delhi summit. A foreign ministry spokesperson emphasized, 'Li Qiang will lead the representatives to attend the G20 summit. It's an important global international forum, and China has consistently attached great significance to it and actively participated.'
This development unfolds against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between China and India, with tensions flaring in various areas, including the ongoing standoff along their disputed Himalayan border.
