Donald Trump promises blizzard of executive orders on first day of presidency
US President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to sign a series of sweeping executive orders immediately after being sworn in, declaring that he will act with "unprecedented speed and strength" to reshape the country's direction.
Speaking to a charged crowd at a 'Victory Rally' in Washington D.C, Trump celebrated his electoral triumph over the Democrats and previewed his administration's bold agenda. The president-elect promised to wield his executive authority on issues ranging from immigration and environmental policy to education and national defense.
'We’re putting America first, and it all begins tomorrow,' Trump declared to an enthusiastic audience, adding, 'You’re going to have a lot of fun watching the news.'
Trump is reportedly planning to sign over 200 presidential actions, including legally binding executive orders and other directives like proclamations. He assured supporters that these measures would swiftly dismantle key policies of the Biden administration.
'Every reckless and misguided executive order from the Biden administration will be overturned within hours of my inauguration,' he proclaimed.
Among his planned actions:
- Expand artificial intelligence initiatives.
- Establish a Department of Government Efficiency (Doge).
- Release classified records related to the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy.
- Direct the military to develop an Iron Dome missile defense system.
- Eliminate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs from the armed forces.
He also vowed to ban transgender women from competing in female sports categories and return control of education policies to individual states.
'These executive orders are going to make you very happy,' Trump said. 'We must set our nation back on the right path.'
Although it is common for presidents to issue executive orders at the start of their term, the sheer volume of actions Trump plans to sign is unprecedented and likely to face legal challenges.
Immigration reform, a cornerstone of Trump’s campaign, is expected to be a key focus of Monday’s executive orders. His promises to tighten border controls and curb illegal immigration resonated strongly with his base during the campaign.
Due to inclement weather, Monday’s inauguration ceremony will be held inside the Capitol Rotunda, marking the first indoor swearing-in in four decades. This decision has left thousands of supporters, who had planned to gather along the National Mall, disappointed.
