US in discussions with India, neighbouring countries regarding recent events in Bangladesh
United States has been in contact with India and other regional countries to discuss recent developments in Bangladesh and to advocate for an end to the violence.
During a briefing yesterday, US State Department Principal Deputy Spokesman Vedant Patel responsed to questions about the security situation, human rights concerns, and the restoration of democracy in Bangladesh.
'Regarding Bangladesh, we have been in communication with our Indian counterparts as well as other regional nations to review the current situation. I won’t disclose the details of private diplomatic conversations,' Patel stated.
The US remains committed to advocating for a halt to the violence in Bangladesh, while also emphasizing the importance of accountability and adherence to the rule of law, he noted.
'We appreciate Dr. Yunus's call for tranquility and the cessation of the recent violence, as well as the new government's dedication to reestablishing security and safeguarding the rights of minority communities,' Patel added.
