Joe Biden Calls Putin a 'Cruel Tyrant'
During a speech to graduates at the Military Academy at West Point, US President Joe Biden referred to Russian President Vladimir Putin as a 'cruel tyrant.' The speech was broadcast on the official White House channel.
'We confidently support Ukraine and will continue to oppose the man I have known for many years, a cruel tyrant. We cannot and will not back down,' said President Biden. He also emphasized that American servicemen will not be sent to fight in Ukraine.
In response, Russia's Ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, called Biden's remark 'another insult' to Putin and deemed it unacceptable, stating it was directed against the entire Russian people.
Biden has a history of using strong language when referring to Putin. In March 2021, he labeled him a 'murderer,' causing a diplomatic uproar. Since the war began, Biden has publicly called Putin a 'dictator,' a 'butcher,' and a 'war criminal,' and has asserted that Putin 'cannot stay in power.'
