People should determine future of Bangladeshi govt: US

The United States has reiterated its stance, emphasizing that the fate of the Bangladeshi government should be determined by the people of Bangladesh themselves, emphasizing the importance of free and fair elections in the country.

During a routine briefing in Washington, US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller emphasized the US's support for democratic processes in Bangladesh. "We firmly advocate for free and fair elections in Bangladesh. It's crucial that the future of the Bangladeshi government is determined by its citizens, unequivocally," stated Miller in response to inquiries regarding discussions between US and Indian officials concerning Bangladesh elections.
Miller also addressed queries about US Assistant Secretary for Central and South Asia Donald Lu's correspondence to the major political parties in Bangladesh, urging dialogue without imposing any conditions. Miller stated, "I appreciate the efforts by several reporters to engage me in internal Bangladeshi political affairs, yet I must continue to abstain from doing so."
He further clarified the US's position by affirming, "The United States maintains a neutral stance in Bangladeshi elections. We do not endorse any specific political party. Our sole focus is on promoting and upholding free and fair elections."
In summary, the US reiterated its commitment to supporting the democratic process in Bangladesh and emphasized the imperative role of the Bangladeshi people in determining the future course of their government through a fair and unbiased electoral system.
