Chinese vice president Han to hold meeting with US secretary of state Blinken
China's Vice President Han Zheng is scheduled to meet with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in New York on Monday.
This meeting comes as Han represents China at the UN General Assembly, currently underway in the city.
The US State Department confirmed Secretary Blinken's meeting with Vice President Han, highlighting the significance of this diplomatic engagement.
The meeting follows recent discussions between China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, which took place over a two-day period in Malta, concluding on Sunday.
According to Beijing's official statements, these discussions involved candid, substantive, and constructive exchanges aimed at stabilizing and enhancing relations between the two nations.
During the talks, Minister Wang reiterated China's stance on Taiwan, describing it as the "first insurmountable red line" in Sino-US relations. He emphasized the importance of the United States adhering to the three Sino-US joint communiques and upholding its commitment not to support "Taiwan independence," as outlined in China's Foreign Ministry statement.
The forthcoming meeting in New York is part of a series of high-level engagements between the two countries. Previous interactions include a meeting in Vienna in May between National Security Adviser Sullivan and Foreign Minister Wang, as well as meetings in recent months involving Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen, Special Envoy John Kerry, Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, and their counterparts in Beijing.
Additionally, US President Joe Biden had a brief encounter with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in New Delhi earlier this month during the G-20 summit hosted by India, marking another chapter in the ongoing dialogue between the two nations.
