Six dead, dozens hurt in stampede at Indian temple
At least six people lost their lives, and dozens were injured in a stampede at a renowned Hindu temple in Tirupati of the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh last night.
According to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Chairman BR Naidu, one victim's identity has been confirmed so far.
He said that the stampede occurred when the shrine gates opened, causing an overwhelming rush among devotees. "As soon as the gates of the shrine opened, everybody surged forward, leading to this tragic stampede.
