Hungary ratifies Sweden's NATO bid, clearing final obstacle to membership
Sweden's bid to join NATO has finally succeeded after Hungary's parliament voted to ratify it. This final vote brings an end to over 18 months of delays that have frustrated the alliance as it expands in response to Russia's war on Ukraine.
The vote passed with an overwhelming majority -188 members for and six against- on Monday (26 February) and was the results of a year and a half of negotiations by Hungary's allies to persuade the nationalist government to lift the block on Sweden's membership, media said.
