India successfully conducts historic space-docking test

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully carried out its first-ever space-docking operation, marking a significant achievement in the country’s space exploration journey.

This groundbreaking feat involved the docking of two small spacecraft in orbit, demonstrating a critical technology for India’s future space ambitions, including building an Indian space station and sending humans to the Moon.
The mission, named SpaDeX, was launched on December 30 from the Sriharikota spaceport in southern India. Using a single rocket, two spacecraft were deployed into space and later separated. Although the docking was initially planned for January 7, it faced multiple rescheduling before being completed.
On Thursday morning, ISRO announced the historic achievement, making India the fourth country in the world to master space-docking technology, joining the ranks of the United States, Russia, and China.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was present at ISRO’s Bengaluru headquarters during the test, praised the accomplishment. 'This is a significant milestone for India's ambitious space missions in the coming years,' he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The success of SpaDeX represents a major step forward for India's space program, paving the way for advanced space missions and further solidifying the country's position as a rising power in space exploration.
