US to provide F-35 fighter jets to India, Pakistan angry

Pakistan has strongly opposed the United States' decision to supply F-35 fighter jets to India, expressing concerns that such a move could disrupt the military balance in South Asia.
The announcement followed a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump in Washington on Thursday. Their discussions covered a wide range of topics, including trade, immigration, and security, which remained a key focus.
During a joint press conference with Modi, Trump stated, 'Starting this year, we’ll be increasing military sales to India by many billions of dollars.' He further revealed plans to eventually provide India with F-35 stealth fighter jets.
Islamabad has officially protested the decision, arguing that advanced military equipment for India could escalate regional tensions.
Trump emphasized the importance of security cooperation between the two nations, including efforts to counter 'the threat of radical Islamic terrorism.' Additionally, discussions included a trade agreement aimed at increasing India’s imports of US oil and gas to reduce America’s trade deficit with the country.
India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, later clarified that the F-35 deal was still in its early stages and no formal negotiations had begun.
Since 2008, India has committed to purchasing over $20 billion worth of defense equipment from the United States.
