PTI presents 'charter of demands' in 3rd round of talks with pakistan govt
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) formally submitted its 'charter of demands' to the government in writing on Thursday during the third round of negotiations aimed at easing political tensions in the country.
The dialogue process, initiated in late December, was intended to address pressing political disputes. However, weeks of discussions have yielded little progress on critical matters, such as establishing a judicial commission and ensuring the release of PTI members currently in custody.
Both sides — the PTI and the ruling coalition led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) — have accused each other of stalling the talks and displaying a lack of commitment to resolving the issues. A breakthrough was achieved after PTI representatives were allowed to meet party founder Imran Khan in Adiala Jail on January 12, paving the way for the latest round of discussions.
Despite this progress, tensions have reignited in recent days. Lawmakers from both the government and the opposition have exchanged sharp criticisms during sessions in the National Assembly and Senate, casting doubt on the likelihood of a swift resolution.
The submission of PTI's demands in writing is seen as a significant step in the negotiation process, but it remains to be seen whether it will lead to meaningful progress in reducing the political deadlock.
