PTI leader khan warns of remittance halt if demands not met
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has warned that he would ask overseas Pakistanis to halt remittances if the government fails to meet his demands.
Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail after meeting the former prime minister, Khan's sister Aleema Khan criticized the government for economic mismanagement, claiming that millions of Pakistanis had fallen below the poverty line since the PTI government was ousted.
She underscored the importance of remittances from overseas Pakistanis in sustaining the national economy while accusing the country’s elite of transferring wealth abroad.
Aleema Khan alleged that PTI's political downfall was part of a coordinated 'London plan' aimed at dismantling the party. She condemned last month's crackdown on PTI marchers, during which the party claimed several workers lost their lives.
Reiterating PTI’s demand, she called for a judicial commission comprising three senior Supreme Court judges to investigate the alleged wrongful arrests of PTI members. She emphasized that her brother remains deeply concerned about the current situation but is determined to continue his fight for justice.
'If these demands are not fulfilled, Imran Khan will urge overseas Pakistanis to cease sending remittances,' she warned.
However, she added that while overseas Pakistanis are prepared to act, Imran Khan has been advised to delay the call to avoid further harm to the country. She noted that he remains under significant pressure but is prioritizing the nation’s well-being and will wait a few more days before deciding on the matter.
