Death toll from Pakistan bus accident climbs to 26
The death toll from a passenger bus accident in northern Pakistan has climbed to 26, a local official said on Wednesday.
Muhammad Zubair, a police official from the Diamer district in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, reported that 26 people lost their lives, with only one woman surviving the incident.
The accident occurred on Tuesday evening when a bus carrying a wedding party from the Astore district in Gilgit-Baltistan was en route to Chakwal district in Punjab. The bus veered off the road and fell into the Indus River.
Police indicated that speeding might have caused the driver to lose control, leading the vehicle, carrying 27 passengers, to plunge into the river.
