Bomb blast kills seven soldiers in northwestern Pakistan

A bomb blast targeting a military truck killed seven soldiers, including an officer, on Sunday in northwestern Pakistan near the Afghan border.

The explosion occurred in the Lakki Marwat district, adjacent to a tribal region known for its instability and divided by the border with Afghanistan.
An improvised explosive device detonated near the military vehicle, resulting in the deaths of the seven soldiers. "The perpetrators of this heinous act will be brought to justice," the army stated.
This tribal region has historically been a sanctuary for Islamist militants operating on both sides of the border.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an umbrella group of Islamist and sectarian militant organizations, has been conducting a campaign to overthrow the Pakistani government.
Islamabad claims that TTP leaders have sought refuge in Afghanistan, where they manage camps to train militants for attacks inside Pakistan.
