Attack on Pakistani outpost near Afghanistan border kills 5 soldiers, 5 militants
Heavily armed militants attacked a Pakistan security outpost near the border with Afghan early Monday, leading to the deaths of five soldiers and five militants during the ensuing clash.
Security officials confirmed the fatalities, stating that the attack occurred in the remote Tirah valley of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Additionally, six soldiers sustained injuries in the firefight.
The outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), also known as the Pakistani Taliban, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement.
This deadly assault followed a counterterrorism operation by the Pakistani military near Peshawar, the provincial capital, which resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and five suspected TTP militants on Sunday.
In response to these events, Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reiterated Islamabad’s demand for the Taliban government in Afghanistan to prevent TTP leaders and fighters from conducting cross-border terrorism from their alleged safe havens in Afghanistan.
During a news conference, Naqvi emphasized that if the TTP continues to operate from Afghanistan without any intervention, it would severely hinder Islamabad's efforts to improve relations with Kabul. 'We want good relations with Afghanistan, but this is possible only if they do not allow their land to be used for terrorism against Pakistan,' Naqvi stated.
