Pakistan's Ex-ISI chief Faiz Hameed faces army inquiry
Pakistan's military established a high-level inquiry committee, led by a major general, to investigate allegations against retired Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed, the former chief of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), regarding the alleged misuse of his authority.
The inquiry was initiated in response to directives from Pakistan's Supreme Court and in accordance with the Ministry of Defence's instructions, as confirmed by sources familiar with the matter.
This marks the first formal inquiry initiated against Gen Faiz, who resigned from his post in November 2022, four months ahead of his scheduled retirement.
Gen Faiz had previously served as the DG Counterintelligence (DG C) in the ISI before assuming the role of director-general. His tenure was marked by various controversies, including his involvement in the Faizabad Dharna case. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif implicated him and Gen Bajwa as key figures behind his removal following a Supreme Court ruling.
Although Gen Faiz was cleared of involvement in the Faizabad Dharna case by an inquiry commission, the military decided to launch an investigation after allegations surfaced that he had unlawfully raided a residence and stolen valuables.
Sources reveal that the Pakistan Army intends to thoroughly investigate all aspects of the case through a high-level institutional inquiry as part of its accountability process. "A high-level inquiry committee, led by a Major General, has been formed to meticulously examine every aspect of this matter," the sources stated.
