Explosion in Pakistan coal mine kills 12 miners

Twelve miners were killed and 8 worker rescued after an explosion in a coal mine in south-western Pakistan, officials said on Wednesday.

Abdul Ghani Baloch, the chief inspector of mines in Balochistan province, provided somber details of the incident, revealing that a methane gas explosion had occurred overnight while twenty miners were inside the mine. Despite the valiant efforts of rescue teams, the toll of the explosion became evident as they recovered the bodies of twelve miners from the site. The survivors, thankfully, were swiftly transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
Coal-rich regions in the western parts of Pakistan, particularly those in close proximity to the Afghan border, are familiar with such tragedies, as mine accidents continue to plague the industry. The prevalence of methane gas build-ups underscores the inherent risks associated with coal mining operations in the region, posing a constant threat to the safety and lives of miners.
This unfortunate incident reignites concerns regarding the working conditions and safety measures within Pakistan's coal mining sector. Labor union officials have previously raised alarms about the absence of adequate safety gear and the substandard working environments that persist in many mines across the country.
