At least 35 die due to surprise snowfall, heavy rains in Pakistan

At least 35 people lost their lives, and numerous others sustained injuries due to unexpected snowfall and freezing rain in remote areas of Pakistan.

Among the victims, 22 were children, many of whom were tragically crushed in landslides that engulfed their homes, according to reports from the nation's disaster management authorities on Tuesday.
The adverse weather conditions severely impacted Pakistan's northern and western regions, causing road blockages and extensive damage to hundreds of houses. The incident is particularly surprising as Pakistan typically experiences humid conditions in March.
Mushtaq Ali Shah, a former director of the country's meteorological department, attributed this unusual weather phenomenon to climate change. He highlighted that while a brief hailstorm is not uncommon, the persistence of such conditions for over 30 minutes is highly unusual.
The heavy rains resulted in the complete destruction of at least 150 houses, with an additional 500 homes suffering partial damage, primarily in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and south-western Balochistan provinces, as confirmed by authorities.
