Pakistan polls: PPP decided to engage with all parties, including PTI

The Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) convened in Islamabad to deliberate on post-election scenarios and coalition government proposals. Following the meeting, the PPP has decided to engage with all political parties, including PTI-backed independents, in exploring potential power-sharing agreements.

Senator Sherry Rehman, addressing a press conference after Monday night's CEC meeting, announced that the PPP would reach out to all political parties, and a dedicated committee would be formed for this purpose. The committee is scheduled to be established on Tuesday, coinciding with the continuation of the CEC meeting at 3 pm, which concluded without a final decision.
During the CEC meeting, concerns were raised about alleged irregularities in the election process across all provinces, as noted by PPP leader Shazia Marri. Faisal Karim Kundi stated that the meeting extensively discussed the current political landscape, potential alliances, and these discussions would resume on the following day.
According to a PPP insider, the central agenda of the CEC meeting was whether to participate in the upcoming central government. The majority of members expressed reservations, citing various challenges, particularly economic ones. The prevailing sentiment among members was to prioritize focusing on forming a government in Sindh, where the PPP holds a majority. However, the insider emphasized that no government could be formed without the support of the PPP.
The PPP leader highlighted that assuming power amidst the country's looming financial challenges would not be a wise decision. Additionally, the reported power-sharing formula in the media was not discussed during the CEC meeting. Addressing the issue of PTI-backed independents, the PPP leader expressed the party's willingness to engage with all stakeholders but noted the need for clear and consistent stances from these independents, citing shifting positions within the PTI leadership.
