Wife fears poisoning of Imran Khan in prison

Fearing that the Pakistan ex- prime minister Imran Khan, could be 'poisoned' in Adiala Jail, Bushra Bibi, the former first lady, has approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to seek enhanced security for her husband in the prison.

Imran Khan was sentenced to three years in prison and fined Rs100,000 in August for providing false asset declarations to the Election Commission of Pakistan. Additionally, he received a five-year disqualification from participating in future general elections. Currently, he is serving his sentence at Adiala Jail, which has housed several former prime ministers in the past.
On Monday, Bushra Bibi filed a petition with the IHC, represented by her attorney, Latif Khosa. In her petition, she expressed grave concerns about her husband's safety in prison, specifically fearing the possibility of poisoning through tampering with his food. She emphasized that Imran Khan is not receiving the entitled facilities as outlined in the prison manual.
Bushra pointed out that other inmates have been granted certain privileges, such as receiving home-cooked meals, while her husband has been denied such accommodations. She argued that this differential treatment constitutes a violation of Articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution and is inhumane.
Furthermore, she urged the court to instruct the relevant authorities to allow Khan the privilege of exercising and taking walks while serving his sentence.
