Pakistan-China discuss arms control, non-proliferation

Pakistan and China engaged in meaningful discussions during their 8th round of bilateral consultations, addressing various aspects of arms control and non-proliferation.

The two-day event, hosted in Beijing, also delved into conversations regarding the regional and global security landscape.
The respective delegations were led by Mohammad Kamran Akhtar, Additional Secretary (Arms Control & Disarmament/Policy Planning) from Pakistan, and Sun Xiaobo, Director General from the Department of Arms Control, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, as detailed in a press release from the Foreign Office spokesperson.
As part of their visit, Pakistan's delegation had the opportunity to explore prominent think-tanks in Beijing, including China's Arms Control and Disarmament Association (CACDA) and the Chinese Institute of Contemporary International Relations (CICR). This visit fostered an agreement to further enrich the strategic collaboration between think-tanks and research institutes in both nations.
The two sides reached a consensus to convene the 9th round of consultations next year, with the exact date to be mutually determined.
Additionally, prior to the formal talks, Additional Secretary Mohammad Kamran Akhtar held a meeting with Sun Weidong, Vice Foreign Minister of the Republic of China. During this interaction, both sides engaged in comprehensive discussions concerning China-Pakistan relations, the international and regional security landscape, and various matters of shared interest.
