Pakistan violence after accusations of blasphemy

Unrest unfolded in Pakistan's Punjab province as armed mobs launched assaults on two churches, alleging blasphemy committed by two Christian residents.

Disturbing visuals circulating on social media exhibited large groups wielding batons and sticks, launching attacks on the Salvation Army Church and the Saint Paul Catholic Church, subsequently setting both places of worship ablaze. Additionally, private residences fell victim to the rampage, with mobs setting homes on fire and shattering windows.
In response to the turmoil, Amir Mir, the caretaker information minister of Punjab, disclosed that over 100 individuals have been taken into custody as of Wednesday. In a bid to restore law and order amidst the religious tensions, paramilitary Rangers have been deployed to Tehsil Jaranwala District Faisalabad, as stated in an official announcement.
The incident's origin traces back to the discovery of torn pages from the Quran, the revered Islamic scripture, in close proximity to a Christian settlement. Allegedly, these pages contained blasphemous content. Local accounts suggest that these pages were presented to a prominent religious figure, who subsequently encouraged the Muslim community to voice their grievances through protests, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible.
