Senator Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar named Pakistan's caretaker PM

The Pakistani government named a caretaker premier on Saturday, a move that kicks off preparations for the country’s next general elections and comes amid a year of political turmoil.

On Saturday, Pakistan's premier Shehbaz Sharif and Opposition Leader Raja Riaz reached a consensus to designate Senator Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar as the caretaker prime minister.
Kakar hails from the southwestern province of Balochistan and will assume the responsibility of forming a cabinet and leading an interim government. This interim administration is tasked with navigating the intricate web of economic and political challenges until the upcoming general elections conclude and a new permanent government is elected.
A formal statement affirmed, 'The prime minister [Sharif] and leader of opposition have jointly signed the advice which will be sent to the president for approval.' Notably, President Arif Alvi has granted his approval for Kakar's appointment, as reported by Pakistan's Geo News.
Senator Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar brings a wealth of experience to this interim role, having previously served as the spokesperson for the Balochistan provincial government. His close association with the military establishment is well-recognized, underlining his deep-rooted connections within the political and security spheres.
As Pakistan embarks on this phase of transition, the selection of Senator Kakar as the caretaker prime minister underscores a pivotal step in maintaining stability and steering the nation through the complex terrain of both economic and political challenges. His experience, coupled with his strategic relationships, positions him to play a crucial role during this period of transformation.
