Imran Khan's lawyers to launch legal challenge

Legal efforts to challenge the three-year graft sentence of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan were set in motion by his legal team on Monday. This sentence has rendered him ineligible to participate in upcoming national elections.

Imran Khan, renowned for his past as an international cricket sensation, was apprehended at his residence over the weekend and incarcerated on charges that he contends are politically motivated.
His legal representatives have thus far been unable to visit him at Attock Jail, an institution with a century-long history situated on the outskirts of the historic city of Attock, approximately 60 kilometers to the west of the capital, Islamabad.
Presently, petitions are being lodged in both the Islamabad and Lahore High Courts to secure power of attorney for the imprisoned former leader. This authority would empower his legal team to contest his conviction.
Furthermore, a separate petition has been submitted, requesting that Khan be housed in a privileged 'A-class' cell, typically reserved for high-profile inmates and offering a higher level of comfort compared to other accommodations.
During a court session on Saturday, which Khan did not attend, a judge declared him guilty of corruption in connection with gifts he had received during his tenure as prime minister. Subsequently, he was sentenced to a three-year jail term.
