Pakistan Ranked 99th on Global Hunger Index

Pakistan's position on the Global Hunger Index (GHI) stands at 99th among 121 countries, signaling serious levels of hunger within the nation. Despite a marginal improvement of 0.5 points in the country's GHI score since 2015, a substantial 22.4% of the population still grapples with undernourishment.

According to the report, Pakistan's situation reveals an alarming trend of declining purchasing power, which has exacerbated the issue of starvation among its citizens.
The report, published by a global food agency, highlights that the average Pakistani household is compelled to allocate a staggering 50.8% of their monthly income solely for food, while 36.9% suffer from food insecurity.
Furthermore, the report sheds light on the fact that 20.5% of the Pakistani population faces severe food shortages, and a distressing 18% of children under the age of five suffer from malnourishment. Shockingly, almost 40 percent of five-year-old children in Pakistan are malnourished, with 29% being underweight.
These figures paint a stark picture of the prevailing hunger crisis in Pakistan, underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive measures to address food insecurity and malnutrition in the country. As the world community grapples with this critical issue, concerted efforts are required to alleviate the suffering of those affected and work towards a future where hunger is no longer a pervasive problem.
