Bangladesh-Pakistan holding Foreign Office Consultations after 15 years

Bangladesh and Pakistan have resumed their Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) after a 15-year hiatus, with a meeting that began this morning (17 April) in Dhaka.

The discussions are being held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where Bangladesh's Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin and his Pakistani counterpart, Amna Baloch, are leading their respective delegations, according to ministry officials.
Amna Baloch, who became Pakistan’s 33rd Foreign Secretary on 11 September last year, arrived in Dhaka on 16 April. She was received by Ishrat Jahan, Director General of the South Asia Wing at Bangladesh’s foreign ministry.
The FOC is taking place amid Islamabad’s broader initiative to enhance diplomatic relations with Dhaka. As part of this effort, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, is also slated to visit Bangladesh later this month. His visit will be the first by a Pakistani foreign minister since 2012.
