Dhaka seeks innovative approaches to resolve Rohingya crisis

Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin has expressed optimism that the upcoming High-Level Conference, organized under the United Nations' initiative in New York, will generate fresh and innovative solutions to address the ongoing Rohingya crisis.
His comments came during a meeting with Ambassador Marcelo Vazquez-Bermudez, Chair of the UNHCR Executive Committee, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to an official statement.
The discussion focused on multiple aspects of the crisis, including the ongoing funding shortages, the political situation in Myanmar, the recent visit of the UN Secretary-General to Bangladesh, and efforts to facilitate the voluntary repatriation of Rohingya refugees.
Both parties emphasized the urgent need for stronger international cooperation and increased support from the global community to tackle the challenges more effectively.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s relentless diplomatic engagement, the Foreign Secretary drew attention to the growing pressure on host communities and reiterated Dhaka’s firm commitment to the safe and dignified return of the Rohingyas to Myanmar.
Ambassador Bermudez praised Bangladesh’s compassion in sheltering a significant number of forcibly displaced Rohingyas and acknowledged the serious consequences of limited funding.
He assured continued support from UNHCR and its partner organizations, particularly through initiatives like the upcoming High-Level Conference.
As part of his visit, Ambassador Bermudez is also scheduled to visit the Rohingya camps to observe the on-ground situation firsthand.
