Japan provides $1.8 million emergency aid to Rohingyas

The Japanese government has entered into an agreement with the World Food Programme (WFP) to deliver1.8 million US dollar in emergency food assistance to Rohingya refugees residing in Bangladesh's Cox’s Bazar and Bhasan Char.

This financial aid will benefit over 191,000 refugees by supporting malnutrition prevention initiatives, income-generating programs, and the restoration of e-voucher outlets. As the Rohingya population lacks access to sustainable livelihood opportunities, they remain entirely reliant on humanitarian aid for their survival.
WFP Country Director Dom Scalpelli stressed the ongoing necessity of such support as the crisis persists into its eighth year. 'Japan’s steadfast commitment to the Rohingya people is invaluable as they continue to face challenges from natural disasters like fires, cyclones, and floods, as well as security threats in the camps. This latest contribution is vital for ensuring critical aid, particularly for vulnerable women and children,' he stated.
Japanese Ambassador Saida expressed optimism that the assistance would help enhance living conditions for the refugees. 'This $1.8 million aid package demonstrates Japan’s dedication to humanitarian efforts, addressing hunger and malnutrition while promoting regional stability,' he remarked.
Since the mass displacement of Rohingya refugees in 2017, Japan has contributed over $230 million in aid to Bangladesh through WFP, UN agencies, and non-governmental organizations.
