Bangladesh-Malaysia emphasize enhancing trade and economic relations
Bangladesh and Malaysia have underscored the importance of enhancing trade and economic collaboration, highlighting significant potential for growth in bilateral relations.
On Sunday, Malaysian High Commissioner Mohd Shuhada Othman met with Lutfey Siddiqi, the Special Envoy on International Affairs to the Chief Adviser, at the Foreign Service Academy (FSA). The meeting focused on exploring opportunities for mutual cooperation and development.
Both nations identified several promising areas for collaboration, including streamlined manpower mobility, reduced manpower processing costs, advancements in data science, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, finance, healthcare, agriculture, energy, and the halal economy.
Additionally, they acknowledged the importance of strengthening ties in other sectors such as small and medium enterprises (SMEs), healthcare, pharmaceuticals, education, capacity building, information and communication technology (ICT), and disaster management.
Lutfey Siddiqi extended his congratulations to Malaysia on its forthcoming ASEAN Chairmanship and expressed gratitude for Malaysia’s support for Bangladesh’s aspiration to become a Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN.
He also appreciated Malaysia's commitment to addressing the situation of approximately 18,000 Bangladeshi workers who were unable to enter Malaysia by the deadline of May 31, 2024. Siddiqi urged for a prompt resolution to this matter, emphasizing its significance for both countries.
The discussions reaffirmed a shared commitment to fostering deeper cooperation and realizing the full potential of their bilateral relationship.
