16 soldiers killed in Pakistan terrorist attack
At least 16 Pakistani soldiers were killed as terrorists attacked a check post in northwestern Pakistan near the Afghan border, the military said late Saturday.
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attack took place on Friday night in the Makeen area of South Waziristan District. The military successfully repelled the assault, killing eight terrorists. However, the clash resulted in the loss of 16 soldiers.
This incident follows a series of military operations earlier this month, during which the Pakistan Army reported eliminating at least 43 terrorists in intelligence-driven operations across the country's northwestern and southwestern regions.
Pakistan has accused militants from the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) of operating from Afghan territory to launch attacks within Pakistan. The Afghan government, however, has denied these allegations.
