Indian foreign secretary likely to visit Dhaka amid strained relations

Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is expected to visit Bangladesh next week for discussions with his Bangladeshi counterpart, according to a report by the Hindustan Times on Wednesday.

While no official announcement has been made by either New Delhi or Dhaka, sources indicate that Misri's visit is tentatively scheduled for December 10. However, given the current state of bilateral ties, there remains uncertainty about whether the visit will proceed as planned.
The last formal consultations between the foreign offices of India and Bangladesh were held in New Delhi in November 2023. If Misri's trip materializes, it could signal a willingness on both sides to move past recent tensions and focus on rebuilding cooperation.
The agenda for the proposed discussions is expected to include resuming India-funded development projects in Bangladesh, easing visa policies, and boosting trade and investment ties, the Hindustan Times reported. The visit is seen as a critical opportunity to mend strained relations and lay the groundwork for future collaboration.
