US lawmakers write to Biden for Imran Khan's release

More than 60 members of the US House of Representatives wrote to President Joe Biden on Wednesday, calling for the release of political prisoners in Pakistan, including former PM Imran Khan.

Led by Congressman Greg Casar, the letter emphasized the need for the administration to prioritize human rights in its approach to Pakistan.
'We strongly support calls for Khan’s immediate release and urge an end to the arbitrary detention of party members and activists in Pakistan,' the lawmakers stated. They called on the Biden administration to secure assurances from the Pakistani government regarding Khan’s safety and well-being, and requested that US embassy officials visit him in prison.
The letter, co-led by Jim McGovern and Summer Lee, features signatures from prominent Democrats, including Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Barbara Lee, Brad Sherman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Ro Khanna, among others.
In their message, the lawmakers expressed solidarity with their Pakistani American constituents and community leaders worldwide, emphasizing support for the people of Pakistan in their quest for a truly representative democracy.
